【英语科技】诺基亚推出新款Lumia手机吸引照相迷

Nokia Corp. unveiled the latest model of its Lumia high-end smartphones, the Lumia 1020, in a new attempt to bolster the company's waning position in the competitive smartphone market.

As with many other manufacturers, Nokia's smartphones largely live in the shadow of popular devices from Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.

The latest model will have a powerful camera and likely target a narrow group of customers interested in having a camera-focused device, but might not do much to turn around sales of the Finnish company's smartphones.

Nokia said the Lumia 1020, with its 41-megapixel camera, will launch with AT&T Inc. on July 26 at about $300 with a two-year contract.

The phone will arrive in China and 'key European markets' before the end of September, according to Nokia officials.

The flagship smartphones of Nokia's two biggest competitors岸Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S4岸are both available for $200 with a two-year AT&T contract.

Nokia has built a reputation of delivering impressive cameras on its smartphones. In fact, the company already launched a 41-megapixel phone last year called the Nokia 808 PureView. The device was praised by critics, but it ran Nokia's doomed Symbian operating system and produced relatively meager sales after some major operators decided not to sell it.

The Lumia line has marked a critical bet that relies heavily on Microsoft Corp.'s latest mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8. Nokia was once the world's largest maker of mobile phones, but is now a shadow of its former self.

In the first quarter, Nokia's position in the global smartphone market dropped to No. 10, according to market-research firm Gartner, from No. 8 in the year-earlier period. Samsung and Apple had 49% of the total unit sales in the period.

Nokia has been handicapped by lacking the marketing power of those larger companies, but also because of its dedication to the Windows ecosystem and its relative lack of applications when compared with Apple's iOS and Google Inc.'s Android software.

But the Lumia has shown some growth. In the first quarter, Nokia shipped 5.6 million Lumias, up 27% from the previous quarter. Nokia has said this sequential growth rate would continue for the second quarter; the company is scheduled to report second-quarter financial results next week.
